It constitutes a symptom of a deeper rift: a schism that runs through Orthodoxy today and which is not only canonical or geopolitical, but deeply spiritual. Moscow accuses the Phanar of "dissolving the body of the Church" and of functioning as an instrument of western interests. The Phanar, on its part, defends its historical and canonical role. But if we stay in this bipolar confrontation, we miss the essential: the price that ecclesiastical unity is already paying. B.- Why "now" the SVR attack? The timing fits very well with a direct Russian reaction to developments that threaten Moscow's "canonical territory", especially in the Baltic: Estonia: there have been legislative/institutional moves aimed at cutting the ties of the Estonian Church (under Moscow) from the Moscow Patriarchate, on the grounds of national security. Lithuania: since 2024, the establishment/installation of an Exarchy of the Ecumenical Patriarchate has proceeded, as a parallel ecclesiastical structure against the Russian jurisdiction in the country. Latvia: since 2022–2023 there is a legal/institutional direction of "de jure independence" of the Church there from an external center.. In simple words: Moscow sees itself losing ground in the Baltic (and potentially elsewhere), not only "ecclesiastically", but as a network of influence. And the SVR (Russian Foreign Intelligence Service) speaks as if making a "preventive strike" of delegitimization of the Phanar before new realities are consolidated. At the same time, in the same package the SVR "throws" Montenegro/Serbia (autocephaly in the "unrecognized" Orthodox Church of Montenegro), something that functions as a signal to the Serbian Church: "look what is coming, if you don't stand with us". C.- Ukraine as a turning point The granting of autocephaly to Ukraine in 2018 was the decisive point. The Ecumenical Patriarchate invoked historical and canonical interpretations for the role of the Phanar as a superordinate ecclesiastical authority competent for the granting of autocephalies. However, these interpretations were seriously and documentedly challenged. Distinguished theologians and hierarchs pointed out that Ukraine had belonged for centuries to the jurisdiction of Moscow and that such a critical decision without pan-Orthodox consensus entailed the risk of schism. Characteristic was the warning of +Anastasios of Albania, who had warned that the unilateral granting of autocephaly, without pan-Orthodox consensus, is not self-evident and carries the risk of deep and lasting division of Orthodoxy. The development confirmed the fears: interruption of eucharistic communion, institutional polarization and a divided Orthodoxy. D.- Geopolitics: real but not full explanation The autocephaly undoubtedly had a geopolitical effect. It weakened Russian influence in Ukraine and strengthened the western strategy. The USA and other western powers publicly welcomed it in the framework of religious freedom and national sovereignty. Of course, this alone is not enough for anyone to accept that Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew acted on orders from foreign centers. There is, however, clearly a coincidence of interests and this is enough to politically charge the decision. Thus, something more complex is proven: that an ecclesiastical act, without pan-Orthodox consensus, becomes vulnerable to political instrumentalization. Moscow and the politicization of the Church The Russian criticism cannot be presented as purely spiritual. The Patriarch of Moscow Kirill has identified with the ideology of the "Russian World" and functions as a theological pillar of Vladimir Putin's state policy. Thus, the Ukrainian issue was not treated only as an ecclesiastical problem, but as an existential threat to the Russian ecclesiastical self-conception. So what is the "war" against the Ecumenical? In my opinion it is mainly: Defense/counterattack of influence: they fear further losses in the Baltic and possible chain reactions in other countries. Preventive delegitimization: when an intelligence service calls you "antichrist" and ties you to "neo-Nazis/MI6", it does not aim at theological discussion. It targets audiences, allies and neutrals, to make them not touch the "Phanar". Message to Serbia and others: Montenegro is put as a "scarecrow" to rally churches around Moscow. Does it relate to the "Third Rome"? The "Third Rome" is a historical-ideological substratum that easily turns into a claim for a leading role of Moscow in the Orthodox world. Even European analyses note that the modern Russian ecclesiastical self-conception is connected with the image of Moscow as "Third Rome" and center/guarantor of "Russian Orthodoxy". On the other hand, Moscow itself often presents the "Third Rome" not as "primacy of power" but as "mystical responsibility/mission". Does Moscow now claim primacy in practice? Formally, the Moscow Patriarchate does not say "I am first". In practice, however, a series of moves look like de facto competition to the coordinating role of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. In this context: 2016: the Russian Church did not participate in the Synod of Crete (Pan-Orthodox Synod), undermining a process historically connected with the primacy of the Phanar. 2018: interrupted eucharistic communion with the Ecumenical Patriarchate due to Ukraine. A move that consolidates bipolarity "Moscow vs Phanar". Africa (Exarchy): the creation of a Russian structure in the canonical area of another Patriarchate was widely presented as an unprecedented move of parallel jurisdictions, i.e. as Moscow behaving as a super-center. E.- The spiritual imprint of autocephaly: from canonical disagreement to living schism Beyond institutions and strategies, the result was a real schism. In Ukraine, two Orthodox ecclesiastical structures were consolidated in the same space. One, with clear state support, acquired institutional superiority. The other found itself facing pressures, removals of churches and persecutions of clergy. From a spiritual point of view, this is crucial: That unity is not built with laws and administrative acts. When the Church is imposed through political power, its evangelical ethos is altered. The schism ceases to be an abstract concept and becomes daily pain for the faithful. F.- Why this is a serious ecclesiological problem Here lies the deeper problem: the Church, which is called to be a space of reconciliation, appears as a field of coercion. And this constitutes a defeat not only for one side, but for Orthodoxy as a whole. Orthodoxy does not perceive unity as administrative regulation but as eucharistic and spiritual communion. When two bishops claim the same see, two "churches" perform separate mysteries in the same space, and one invokes state power to impose itself at the expense of the other, then the Church ceases to be a space of reconciliation and turns into a field of conflict. Here lies the heaviest spiritual burden of the decision: even if there were canonical arguments, the result was the rupture of ecclesiastical peace. This is exactly what Anastasios of Albania feared and warned: that the absence of pan-Orthodox consensus would lead not to healing, but to deepening of the schism. G.- What is the spiritual meaning of the schism? Here Orthodoxy is unrelenting – and towards all sides. a) Schism is not "vindication". In Orthodox theology: schism vindicates no one, even if someone has canonical arguments. Saint John Chrysostom says (in free rendering): "Not even the blood of martyrdom washes away schism". That is: schism is spiritual failure, not victory. b) Schism is rupture of communion, not simply disagreement. The Church is not an ideological club nor an administrative organization. It is eucharistic communion. When this breaks, truth ceases to function soteriologically, canonicity loses its therapeutic meaning, and the Church risks resembling a "power institution". That is why schism is considered heavier than heresy: heresy wounds truth, schism wounds love. c) The spiritual message of today's schism. If we see it in spiritual terms (and not propagandistic), the schism says something harsh to everyone. To the Phanar, that canonical authority without consensus becomes authority without peace. To Moscow, that the defense of "canonical territory" with state power invalidates the Gospel. To all of us, that the Church, when it enters the logic of geopolitical victories, loses its spiritual witness. Who then is charged with the schism? The responsibility is not symmetrical, but real. The Ecumenical Patriarchate bears the primary institutional responsibility, as it proceeded unilaterally to an act of pan-Orthodox scope and while knowing that a significant part of Orthodoxy did not accept it. Moscow bears the secondary and escalating responsibility, as it chose the interruption of eucharistic communion, generalized the rupture and connected it directly with state, national and war rhetoric. The Ukrainian state and local mechanisms bear heavy pastoral responsibility, turning the schism into coercion with removals of churches, persecutions of clergy, restriction of the ecclesiastical life of the opponents. In simple words: the Phanar opened the wound, Moscow refused any healing and made it permanent. In Orthodoxy, however, schism vindicates no one. It is spiritual failure of all. H.- Is there a theological way out of the schism? Yes, there is. But it is narrow, painful and politically inconvenient for everyone. That is why it has been avoided until now. Orthodoxy does not heal schisms with victories, court decisions, or "faits accomplis". It heals them only with repentance, suspension of validity and common discernment. For healing, five preconditions must be met:

1. First precondition: recognition of the schism as spiritual failure. Not as "geopolitical necessity", "canonical vindication" or "historical success". But as failure of the Church to preserve unity. If no side says at least silently: "we sinned against unity", then there is no ecclesiastical solution, only diplomatic management. Without this, all the following are pretexts.
2. Second precondition: suspension of imposition – not lifting of positions. Theologically critical point: The Church does not require anyone to change opinion immediately, but requires the cessation of imposition. In practice this means that in Ukraine there will be suspension of any state pressure, freezing of church removals, full freedom of existence for both ecclesiastical bodies will be ensured. This is the minimal evangelical limit. Without this: "unity" will be simply dominance.
3. Third precondition: pan-Orthodox process without prerequisite "vindication". Here lies the big obstacle. A true pan-Orthodox gathering cannot happen if the Phanar comes demanding prior acceptance of the autocephaly, or Moscow comes demanding its prior annulment. The only ecclesiologically correct basis is: "we come not to be vindicated but to be healed". This is spiritually huge and politically painful.
4. Fourth precondition: theological re-examination of the model of authority itself. The schism brought to the surface a deeper problem: What does primacy mean? What does autocephaly mean? When does canonicity cease to be healing and become a mechanism of power? If these are not re-examined synodically, the problem will not be solved. It will simply be transferred elsewhere (Baltic, Africa, Balkans). Today's schism is a warning, not an exception.
5. Fifth precondition: the last and most difficult, repentance without winners. Orthodoxy knows that truth does not triumph with defeats of others, but with humility of all. This means – bluntly but truly: The Phanar to accept that unilateralism wounded unity. Moscow to accept that it state-ized the Church. And the local, worldwide, Orthodox churches to accept that they were silent for reasons of fear or interest. Without this collective repentance, there is no ecclesiological exit, only management of a permanent trauma.

I.- Are there historical precedents for healing schisms? Yes. And indeed of equally bitter schisms. None was solved "quickly" or "cleanly". All were solved when the logic of victory was abandoned.

1. The schism of Phanar – Bulgarian Church (1872–1945)

The Bulgarian Church was declared schismatic in 1872 due to ethnophyletism. The schism lasted 73 years. It was healed, not by the vindication of one side, not by the full "repentance" of the other, but by the common recognition that the division had become spiritually unbearable. The Phanar recognized the autocephaly without fully annulling its initial judgment, and the Bulgarian Church accepted restoration without triumphalism. No side "won". Unity won.

2. The schism of Moscow – Georgia (1917–1943)

The Georgian Church proclaimed autocephaly unilaterally in 1917. Moscow denied it for decades. Restoration came, without fully annulling the initial positions, amid geopolitical pressures (WWII), with tacit mutual concession. The schism ended not with judicial judgment, but with ecclesiastical condescension.

3. The "small but instructive" schism of Estonia (1996)

The confrontation of Phanar–Moscow over Estonia led to interruption of communion. The solution given did not fully solve the canonical issue, but allowed the coexistence of two structures without mutual exclusion. The Church preferred peace with ambiguity, rather than clarity with rupture. Conclusion: Orthodoxy does not heal schisms with absolute solutions, but with patience, silent retreats and common care for the body. J.- What is the biggest obstacle today? (and why it is not theological) The biggest obstacle is not the canonical arguments. It is something deeper and more dangerous: the identification of ecclesiastical truth with political survival. I will say it bluntly. The Phanar fears retreat Not theologically – existentially. If it appears that it "retreats", it fears that it will lose its ecumenical/coordinating role, the primacy of responsibility will be annulled, a precedent of challenge will be created. Thus, the autocephaly of Ukraine becomes an issue of prestige, not only canonicity. Moscow again fears defeat. Not ecclesiastically – geopolitically. Ukraine is not simply "one Church". It is the core of Russian ecclesiastical identity (Kiev = baptism of the Rus). Retreat here means acceptance that the "Third Rome" is not a self-evident center. And this is unthinkable for today's Russian narrative. The other local Churches fear the cost. Most local Churches see the problem, understand the danger, but are silent. Why? Many reasons: fear of rupture, economic dependencies, political pressures. This silence is theologically very heavy. The tragic paradox therefore is that everyone speaks in the name of the Church, but no one dares the cost of the Church. And the cost is loss of prestige, loss of influence, loss of control. Without these, however, there is no cross, therefore no resurrection. K.- Concluding reflection Today's schism is not simply a conflict of Phanar and Moscow. It is a mirror. It shows what happens when canonicity is detached from love and truth from unity. In the Orthodox tradition, schism is not overcome with vindication but with repentance. Not individual only, but collective. When everyone accepts to lose something – prestige, control, certainties – then only can communion be reborn. Until then, the schism remains an open wound. And perhaps, as painful as it is, this wound may be the last reminder that the Church exists not to govern the world, but to heal it. It was the Order of the Perfectibilists, a name that concealed a deep ideological desire: the overthrow of the existing order through the complete perfection of its members, in spiritual, moral, and ultimately, political terms. Weishaupt, a "man of the light of the Enlightenment," chose as a symbol the owl of Minerva (Athena), gazing from the pages of an open book.

The first distinctive characteristic was the suffocating hierarchy. A pyramid of thought and power with a base of unsuspecting Novices, which "soared" through the Brothers of Minerva and the Lesser Illuminati, toward the cadres. But the true core of power, the mechanism of the conspiracy itself, lay in the higher, unspeakable "greater mysteries." There ruled the "Priests" of the new religion, the viceroys of politics, the magi of metaphysics, and at the top, the undisputed king.

The path to the inner circle was a successive, obligatory dismemberment of the previous identity, certified by oaths that tested the limits of human psychology.

In the novice stage, the candidate swore allegiance at the altar of secrecy. He admitted that any leak would condemn him to the eternal fate of the traitor, to the "wrath of humanity and the contempt of every good person." But the oath was not only defensive. It was aggressive. The novice was bound to monitor, record, detect. He had to transform into an agent, to provide detailed reports on peers, relatives, neighbors – often on people he didn't even know – in a practice that sealed his exit from human society.

In the Order of Minerval, within the ritual half-light of a "church of Minerva," the renunciation became total. The mask and cloak were the final symbols of a symbolic death. The newly enlightened swore now that the Order was the absolute good, above family, homeland, God. Parents, siblings, religion became nonexistent concepts, to be dissolved. Personal well-being, fame, comfort, even life, were proclaimed victims worthy to be offered at the altar of the broader Plan.

And finally, in the Supreme Degrees, the ultimate trouble. According to the historical decrees of suppression and the Testimony of the Apostate, the oath-taker participated in ceremonies of "incest oaths." He publicly denied, with words and actions, the Christian faith and every other religious system, submitting to the "Natural Religion" of the group. He swore to betray, destroy, dissolve his country and nation if they stood in the way of the Order's goals. At the apex, in the degree of Mage or King, the oath culminated in a ritual, symbolic but psychologically total, "self-sacrifice." The individual offered his life, his will, his very existence as an offering to the mechanism of the conspiracy, completing his transformation from a freely thinking and active citizen into a tool in the absolute power of the organization.

The work of the Bavarian Police in the years 1786-1787 was revelatory. In the house of senior executive Xavier von Zwack, a treasure of documents was found that formed the legal and public basis for their destruction. The Einige Originalschriften des Illuminaten Ordens was not simple reading. It was an image of an inner world that provoked disgust and fear. Among encryption codes and member lists, the following stood out:

• The "Defense of Suicide," a text that removed the moral stance against the act of suicide, opening the way for the sacrifice of the individual at the altar of the organization's will-decision.
• The "Defense of Atheism" and the openly hostile to religion text "Besser als Horus," which confirmed the anti-Christian basis of their ideology.
• Medical Instructions for Abortions (three different documents). Their presence in the secret archives of a male organization was not a simple coincidence. It was interpreted as proof of a cold, organized approach to the control of life and death, the ability to terminate unwanted reproduction, either for personal reasons of members or as an effective method of pressure or revenge.
• Instructions for Inducing "Furor Uterinus." A dark document that described methods to induce hysterical, uncontrollable sexual desire in women. In the context of an organization focused on subversion and control, this document hides a horrific potential: to be used as a weapon for dividing families, defaming opponents, or even emotional blackmail.

But the apex of the revelations came from Sandersdorf Castle. In the documents of the Nachtrag, the correspondence of Weishaupt himself, the "Spartacus," was found. And there, with vocabulary that left little room for interpretation, there were references to the theoretical or practical use of poisons. They were discussions about neutralizing, removing obstacles and enemies of the organization. Along with detailed instructions for handling and neutralizing such individuals and plans for systematic infiltration into all branches of power, the image that began to form was that of a brutal, decisive, and criminally oriented group.

TESTIMONIES AND CONFIRMATIONS

The apostates gave voice to the written evidence. Joseph Utzschneider, a former high-level member, in his letter to the Grand Duchess, shed light on the practices: he denounced that the Order considered the murder of enemies through poisons an acceptable practice, that religion was foolishness to them, and that they were involved in political conspiracy in favor of a foreign power (Austria) against their homeland (Bavaria).

They are connected to the violence and atheism of the French Revolution, as a lever for the destruction of the Old Order. They are placed at the center of the World Wars and contemporary geopolitical upheavals, as a mechanism for the deliberate weakening of nation-states and the creation of crises that require global solutions.

According to the unified narrative that circulates, the Illuminati were never eradicated. They escaped, dispersed, and integrated into the core of the global economic, political, and media establishment.

Their contemporary image is a super-elite that operates above the laws of nations. They control international banks and financial flows, determining the fate of economies. They own the media and mass entertainment, designing the cultural narrative and causing moral erosion. They use symbols – the pyramid with the all-powerful eye, the obelisks, the hidden handshakes – as a secret language and at the same time as a contemptuous mockery of the uninitiated.

They continue to perform rituals. In remote, protected spaces, such as the annual Bilderberg Conference or the forests of Bohemian Grove, where, according to confessions and rumors, satanic liturgies and symbolic, but deeply meaningful, sacrifices are performed – rituals that strengthen their cohesion and the sense of their absolute difference from the common world.

They are members or the instigator behind international movements such as Metaphorical Zionism, with the ultimate goal of shaping a global theocracy under their exclusive authority. Adam Weishaupt may have died in Gotha in 1830, but his plan is alive. The Order survives as a super-organism, the invisible manipulator behind every significant global upheaval, steadfastly pushing humanity toward a final destination: a unified, centralized, absolute Global Domination.

Contemporary groups with the name "Illuminati"

Today there are various groups that use the name "Illuminati" (e.g., Ordo Templi Orientis with the degree "Epopt or Perfect Pontiff of the Illuminati," or other fraternal organizations). These have structure, degrees (Novice, Minerval, etc.), symbols or names from the historical organization as their continuation.

In Greece, the show THEMA UNCUT (December 2025) with Frixos Drakontidis presents a contemporary group in Athens that calls itself "Illuminati."
