The CIA's "Timber Sycamore" Program for the Destabilization of Syria and the Overthrow of Assad! Started by the USA, Ended by Russia... for Israel!! The Role of Turkey...
Understanding the full extent of the conflict (a fake conflict) that began in Syria in 2011 by several Western powers, particularly the USA and the United Kingdom, is not feasible for everyone, although there are many enlightened fools out there who believe they know more about Middle Eastern geopolitics than anyone else. One of those who has handled high-level information was the prominent economist Jeffrey Sachs, Jewish by origin but a fervent defender of Palestinian rights.
At the Antalya conference (Turkey) this year, Jeffrey Sachs revealed the fundamental role played by the United States in exacerbating the Syrian crisis. Sachs emphasized something that most people do not know and that many, some out of ignorance and others through clever manipulation, have never pointed out: it was the little-known CIA program called "Timber Sycamore" for the destabilization of the only Middle Eastern country that still resisted imperialism, namely Syria.
Sachs stated: "We all know, from the time of Obama and Hillary Clinton, until Trump announced it later, that they (Obama and Clinton) created ISIS and Al-Nusra, while the Gulf countries funded the operation." The goal, says Sachs, "was never the fight for democracy or human rights, but rather the service of regional and international interests, and above all, those of Israel."
The USA started the civil war in Syria and Russia ended it by overthrowing Bashar al-Assad. The Western "left" (the term itself is a self-contradiction in essence in the West; objectively, there can be no left), on its part, was complicit in all the crimes committed by the terrorists and their funders, supporting the big lie that they were "rebels." This "left" falsely pointed to Assad as responsible for the use of "chemical weapons" against the civilian population or that the White Helmets were beautiful "humanitarian" idealists (in reality, they were Al-Qaeda terrorists) and that, moreover, the triumph of the Islamists in December 2024 was necessary to end a "despotic regime."
When the so-called "Arab Spring"—which was praised, let's not forget, by the entire global Western-oriented "left"—was at its peak in Syria, the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) presented plans to the congressional intelligence committees in early 2012 to support the "Syrian rebels" in their effort to overthrow President Bashar al-Assad. Around the same time, US Ambassador Robert Ford closed the American embassy in Damascus and the diplomatic mission was transferred to the US embassies in Amman and Ankara. (Note: the entire Western curtain did the same)
During 2012, there was no popular support for direct US military intervention in Syria, as a prolonged uprising was seen as a more realistic option for overthrowing Assad. In this context, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and CIA Director David Petraeus pushed for the issuance of a presidential decree to help support this terrorist uprising during their talks with President Obama.
While these discussions were ongoing, the CIA had already begun providing covert support to terrorists, including the supply of weapons, concealing the US role through collaboration with Saudi Arabia, Turkey (a NATO country), and Qatar. The "Timber Sycamore" program began in 2013, when the "Free Syrian Army" and other terrorist factions received support from the CIA and the US Special Operations Command.
Through this program, the USA monitored foreign support to the terrorists. This was followed by shipments of small arms, ammunition, and anti-tank missiles (TOW). The weapons were purchased in Eastern Europe and the Balkans and then sent to Syria via Saudi Arabia, passing through Jordan and Turkey.
The CIA had two main centers for the "Timber Sycamore" operations in Turkey and Jordan, in which countries such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, France, and Great Britain participated. The support networks included bases and camps throughout Syria and the Gulf countries. The terrorists of the "Northern Front" were trained in Gaziantep and Antioch (both in Turkey), while the "Southern Front" organized its operations in Jordan and focused on areas such as Al-Tanf, Daraa, Sweida, and the outskirts of Damascus.
In 2014, the Jordan center trained about 600 terrorists per month. The terrorist leaders requested weapons and training, and the CIA forwarded these requests to the US government and its partners, while Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates provided the funding and weapons.
Saudi Arabia and the United States bought the weapons in Europe, while Turkey and Jordan facilitated their delivery to Syria. End-user certificates were signed stating that the weapons were intended exclusively for the US military, in order to conceal the real beneficiaries from the European suppliers, despite violating the non-reexport terms. The weapons arrived by air in Saudi Arabia and were then transferred to CIA centers in Turkey and Jordan.
Between 2014 and 2016, the United States trained thousands of terrorists under the Timber Sycamore program and equipped at least 10,000 of them. More than 60,000 terrorists from at least 42 factions joined the program. In May 2017, between 30,000 and 35,000 Islamist terrorists were supported by the CIA in the battles for Idlib, while another 30,000 fought in the south, half of them within the Salafist militia "Army of Islam" Jaysh al-Islam.
The funding for Timber Sycamore amounted to $1 billion annually from Congress, representing about 7% of the CIA's budget in 2014 and 2015, making it one of the largest expenditures in the history of US covert operations. However, this was not enough without the financial contribution of Saudi Arabia. Each terrorist cost about $100,000 per year.
The program ended on October 9, 2015, after the publication of oversight reports revealing failure to meet goals and oversight requirements. The Special Forces then resumed their collaboration with the CIA to support terrorist factions in Syria under Operation Timber Sycamore, but with new responsibilities. Scandals and failures accelerated the end of "Timber Sycamore."
Russia officially entered the Syrian scene in 2015, limiting most US activities in the country. In 2016, and this is important to note, the United States and Russia created a coordination team to prevent conflicts between opposing forces supported by each side. Negative reports about the trained fighters began to appear. In one case, terrorists linked to Timber Sycamore executed prisoners and, although the program was exempt from human rights violation reporting requirements, the incidents reached the media.
Although the program seemed to be failing for many years, the events of December 2024, with the fall of Bashar al-Assad, completely changed the landscape. The Turkey-supported Syrian opposition factions, originally formed from the remnants of the northern front of the program, took control of the Syrian government. But the factions that overthrew Assad were actually the most extremist Salafist jihadist currents, which had already allied with Al-Qaeda and the Islamic State at different stages. Their leader was Ahmad al-Sharaa, known as Abu Muhammad al-Julani.
Al-Julani created Jabhat al-Nusra on the orders of ISIS, but "broke away" from ISIS in 2016, changing the name of the terrorist organization to Fatah al-Sham Front and later to Sham Liberation Authority (Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham). All of these were superficial operations designed within the headquarters of the CIA and British MI6, with the aim of "softening" his image from a "radical" terrorist to a "moderate" fighter.
A few days after al-Julani took control of Damascus, American delegations met with him and the $10 million reward that had been offered for his head seven years earlier was withdrawn. In reality, this reward was a cleverly calculated scam orchestrated by the CIA and the British to make it appear that the USA was fighting terrorism, while in fact they had been supporting it for 14 years.

**Call for Information Regarding Two Metropolitans Kidnapped in Aleppo and Missing for 13 Years**
The Syriac Orthodox Archdiocese of Beirut issued a call for information regarding the fate of two religious figures: Metropolitan Paul Yazigi of the Greek Orthodox Church of Antioch in Iskenderun-Aleppo, and Metropolitan John Abrohom of the Syriac Orthodox Church in Aleppo, who were kidnapped in Syria on April 22, 2013, and whose fate has remained unknown for 13 years. No news has been received regarding the religious figures, Metropolitan Paul Yazigi of the Greek Orthodox Church of Antioch in Iskenderun-Aleppo, and Metropolitan John Abrohom of the Syriac Orthodox Church in Aleppo, who were kidnapped in Syria on April 22, 2013, 13 years ago.
The Syriac Orthodox Archdiocese of Beirut issued a statement regarding the revelation of information concerning the fate of Yazigi and Abrohom. The Archdiocese emphasized that spiritual and humanitarian efforts continue within the framework of this still unresolved case.
The statement noted that the two metropolitans "will maintain their place in collective memory" and that the passage of time has not diminished the hope for the revelation of their fate. The statement concluded as follows: "Our prayers continue for the revelation of the truth and for their safe return."
The Archdiocese appealed to the international community and humanitarian organizations to intensify their efforts to monitor the case. The statement noted that revealing the fate of the two metropolitans is part of a broader process concerning abducted and missing persons in the region.
**What Happened?**
On April 22, 2013, Metropolitan John Abrohom of the Syriac Orthodox Church of Aleppo welcomed Metropolitan Paul Yazigi of the Greek Orthodox Church of Antioch, Iskenderun-Aleppo, at the Bab al-Hawa border crossing on the Syrian side, upon his return from Turkey to Syria. The vehicle also carried two other individuals: the driver, Fathallah Haboun, and Fuad Eliya.
They were kidnapped by armed men.
It is known that while the metropolitans were heading to Aleppo, they passed a checkpoint controlled by the Free Syrian Army (FSA) approximately 20 km from the border without incident, but shortly afterward, their path was blocked by vehicles carrying armed men. It is also reported that eight armed men forced the driver and Fuad Eliya out of the vehicle, after which two armed men took control and kidnapped the metropolitans.
Multiple efforts have been made over the last 10 years regarding the fate of the religious leaders. In addition to Christian communities, the United States (USA) has also been closely involved in the matter through its State Department.
The Turkish government, despite its sovereignty in the region, has made only a few statements since the incident and has taken no further action.
Following the kidnapping of the metropolitans, the Turkish government made statements that gave the impression that it possessed information regarding the incident. Many officials, including then-Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, repeatedly made hopeful statements about the kidnapped metropolitans, saying things like: "We know they are alive; their rescue is only a matter of time." However, even after 13 years, no progress has been made regarding the metropolitans. The government remained silent on the matter, leaving questions unanswered.
**"No Information Was Given"**
The issue was repeatedly raised before the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). For years, the government was asked if it had any information on the matter. Immediately after the kidnapping of the metropolitans in 2013, Mehmet Ali Ediboglu, a CHP (Republican People's Party) MP from Hatay, raised the issue in Parliament. Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu was asked if they had any information, but Davutoglu stated they had no information.
Over the years, MPs from the CHP and the HDP (Peoples' Democratic Party) have repeatedly asked the government if it had any information on the matter. However, no answer has been given to any of these questions. Finally, six years ago, the questions posed by HDP MP from Mardin, Tuma Celik, to Vice President Fuat Oktay also remained unanswered.
**The Metropolitans Were Not Questioned About the Jihadists!**
One of the most significant allegations regarding the kidnapping of the metropolitans concerned Abu al-Banat, the leader of one of the jihadist organizations. Syrian lawyer Erkan Metin repeatedly reported allegations regarding the arrest and trial of Abu al-Banat.
According to claims, shortly after the kidnapping of the metropolitans, a group arriving from Syria underwent identity checks in Konya. Police, suspecting the group which had no identification, reportedly arrested those in the vehicle. One of those arrested was identified as Magomed Abdurahmanov, also known as Abu Banat. It was widely alleged that Abu Banat may be one of the individuals appearing in videos circulating in digital media showing him carrying out slaughters with a bladed weapon in Syria. Furthermore, it was reported that a raid on an address provided by Abu Banat in Istanbul resulted in the seizure of numerous weapons and ammunition.
**Firearms Found**
According to the file, during an investigation at the address in Bagcilar, Istanbul, where Magomed Abdurahmanov, also known as Abu Banat, resided, two hand grenades, eight magazines, 186 heavy-caliber cartridges, a belt, a bladed weapon, and three black robes believed to be those worn in the videos were seized.
**He Confessed**
It was discovered that Abu Banat, in his police statement, accepted all charges, admitting he was the leader of an organization linked to Al-Qaeda and describing how he murdered Christian clerics in Syria with a blade. He stated that this was the first time he committed a blade slaughter and that such acts were carried out almost every Friday in the conflict zone. He also stated that he was the "Emir" (leader) of the organization.
**He Retracted His Statement at the First Hearing**
Again, when Abu Banat was arrested in Bagcilar, he stated during police interrogation that the numerous portable headphones found on him were given to him by someone named Abu Jafar, whom he believed was from the Turkish intelligence services. Abu Banat was arrested in July 2013. However, at the hearing 10 months later, he retracted his initial statement, claiming that despite the images in the videos, he was not the one who committed the blade slaughter.
**Metropolitans Not Questioned**
Abu Banat said in court: "We fought in Syria. Turkey has helped us until now, but I do not understand why I am being arrested now. No one listens to me." On the other hand, it was also revealed during this period that the video was authentic. During the trial, however, the kidnapping of the metropolitans by Abu Banat was never disputed.
**Letter from the Intelligence Department**
In addition to all this, the case file also contains a confidential letter dated July 2, 2013, sent from the Intelligence Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the Istanbul Police Department. The letter stated: "Information has been received that the metropolitans were kidnapped by the group of Magomed Abdurahmanov, Katibat al-Muhajirun, and were first taken to the village of Ancura in Aleppo and then to the village of Sermade Deridize in Idlib, and that a plan was underway to hand over the metropolitans to Assad for exchange."
**"The Author Was Worried"**
Furthermore, it was revealed that on April 26, 2013, the Intelligence Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had provided the same information to the police regarding the matter. The information, written just four days after the kidnapping of the metropolitans, was included in another memorandum in the case file, which contained more detailed information about the metropolitans. The memorandum stated that Metropolitan Paul Yazigi was worried about possible harm due to the support of his opponents, that he planned to settle in Turkey, and that he had been entering and exiting Turkey since January 2013. The same memorandum also stated that on April 22, 2013, after exiting the Cilvegözü border crossing, Metropolitan Yazigi, together with the Syriac Orthodox Metropolitan of Aleppo, John Abrohom, were kidnapped by the Katibat al-Muhajirun group, which is linked to Al-Qaeda.
**No Investigation Permission Granted**
The prosecution requested permission from the Ministry of Justice to launch an investigation into crimes against humanity, due to images published in the press showing a slaughter carried out with a blade. However, in its written response on August 26, 2013, the Ministry denied permission, stating that the slaughter was an internal Syrian issue and that Turkey had suffered no damage from the incident.
Abu Banat and his organization were added to the US blacklist on November 13, 2015. The US State Department announced that it had blacklisted a Dagestani jihadist who was imprisoned in Turkey for the blade slaughter of three people on November 13, 2015, and that this individual had received only a 7.5-year prison sentence in Turkey.
The US State Department also announced six years ago in July that it would offer a reward of 5 million dollars for information regarding the kidnapped metropolitans.
Syrian Christians demand that the perpetrators be brought to justice.
However, for 13 years, no information has been received regarding the fate of the metropolitans.
