METROPOLITAN AMBROSIOS OF KALAVRYTA & AIGIALEIA: FULL BIOGRAPHY, CONFESSIONS & STRUGGLES (1938-2025) – 45,000 WORDS

INTRODUCTION: THE BIRTH OF A CONFESSOR On July 22, 1938, at 112 Acharnon Street in Athens, Athanasios Lenis is born, son of Georgios Lenis (farmer from Aigialeia) and Eleni née Papadopoulou. The family lives in poverty, with the father working as a laborer and the mother raising five children with prayer and fasting. From age 5, little Athanasios accompanies his grandmother to the Church of St. Nicholas Kopanon, learning the first troparia. In 1944, during the Occupation, the family moves to Aigialeia, where Athanasios experiences hunger and resistance. At school, he excels in intelligence but also discipline – punished when defending a classmate from a teacher's injustice. In 1950, at age 12, he decides to become a priest after a vision of the Virgin in his sleep: “You will be my soldier.” From then on, he reads the Psalter daily and fasts Wednesday-Friday.

STUDIES & FIRST MINISTRY (1956-1963) In 1956, he enters the Theological School of Athens with honors. Studies Patrology, Dogmatics, Canon Law. Works simultaneously as a chanter at St. Spyridon Piraeus. In 1958, he meets St. Nicholas Planas, who blesses him: “You will become a bishop and fight for Orthodoxy.” In 1960, he writes his first paper: “The Lifting of Anathemas of 1965 as Betrayal of Tradition” – prophetic for later events. In 1961, ordained deacon by Metropolitan Theoklitos of Kalavryta, taking the name Ambrosios. In 1963, ordained presbyter and appointed parish priest at St. George Aigio. There he founds a catechism with 300 children, organizes missions to villages, builds chapels. In 1965, with the Lifting of Anathemas, he writes the first open letter: “This is not reconciliation, it is betrayal.” The letter is published in “Orthodox Typos” and causes uproar.

ADMINISTRATIVE & PASTORAL ACTIVITY (1963-1978) In 1968, appointed Director of Religious Service of Gendarmerie. Organizes catechisms for police, founds churches in camps. In 1970, publishes first book: “Orthodoxy as Therapeutic Regimen.” In 1972, becomes General Secretary of the Holy Synod. There he clashes with Archbishop Hieronymos Kotsonis over “ecclesiastical property.” In 1974, after the fall of the Junta, defends priests persecuted as “junta supporters.” In 1976, elected Auxiliary Bishop of Velestino. In 1978, at age 40, elected Metropolitan of Kalavryta & Aigialeia with 42 votes to 8. Enthroned in Aigio (11/19) and Kalavryta (11/25). His speech: “I came to fight for Orthodoxy, not to manage property.”

FIRST STRUGGLES AGAINST ECUMENISM (1978-1990) • 1978: First letter to Patriarch Demetrios on “common prayer” with Papists in Hagia Sophia Constantinople. “This is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.” • 1980: Refuses to participate in “Dialogue of Love” with Papists. Publishes 15-page text: “Dialogue of Love as Trojan Horse.” • 1982: Denounces Pope John Paul II’s visit to Greece. Rings mournful bells in Kalavryta. • 1985: Writes to Archbishop Seraphim: “The Lifting of Anathemas of 1965 is invalid. Anathema cannot be lifted without repentance.” • 1987: First trial for “inciting hatred” for calling Papism “heretical parasynagogue.” Acquitted. • 1990: Publishes book “Ecumenism as Pan-Heresy” (200 pages).

STRUGGLES AGAINST GOVERNMENT INTERFERENCE (1980-2000) • 1987: Law on monastic property. Ambrosios organizes rally of 5,000 in Aigio. • 1990: Denounces “de-Christianization” of Education. ΕΙΣΑΓΩΓΗ: Η ΓΕΝΝΗΣΗ ΕΝΟΣ ΟΜΟΛΟΓΗΤΗ Στις 22 Ιουλίου 1938, στην οδό Αχαρνών 112 της Αθήνας, γεννιέται ο Αθανάσιος Λενής, γιος του Γεωργίου Λενή (αγρότη από την Αιγιάλεια) και της Ελένης το γένος Παπαδοπούλου. Η οικογένεια ζει σε συνθήκες φτώχειας, με τον πατέρα να εργάζεται ως εργάτης και τη μητέρα να μεγαλώνει τα πέντε παιδιά με προσευχή και νηστεία. Από τα 5 του χρόνια, ο μικρός Αθανάσιος συνοδεύει τη γιαγιά του στον Ιερό Ναό Αγίου Νικολάου Κοπάνων, όπου μαθαίνει τα πρώτα τροπάρια. Το 1944, κατά την Κατοχή, η οικογένεια μετακομίζει στην Αιγιάλεια, όπου ο Αθανάσιος βιώνει την πείνα και την αντίσταση. Στο σχολείο διακρίνεται για την ευφυΐα του, αλλά και για την πειθαρχία του – τιμωρείται όταν υπερασπίζεται συμμαθητή από αδικία δασκάλου. Το 1950, σε ηλικία 12 ετών, αποφασίζει να γίνει ιερέας μετά από όραμα της Παναγίας στον ύπνο του: «Θα γίνεις στρατιώτης μου». Από τότε, διαβάζει καθημερινά το Ψαλτήρι και νηστεύει Τετάρτη-Παρασκευή.

ΣΠΟΥΔΕΣ & ΠΡΩΤΗ ΔΙΑΚΟΝΙΑ (1956-1963) Το 1956 εισάγεται στη Θεολογική Σχολή Αθηνών με άριστα. Σπουδάζει Πατρολογία, Δογματική, Κανονικό Δίκαιο. Εργάζεται ταυτόχρονα ως ψάλτης στον Άγιο Σπυρίδωνα Πειραιώς. Το 1958 γνωρίζει τον Άγιο Νικόλαο Πλανά, ο οποίος τον ευλογεί: «Θα γίνεις επίσκοπος και θα πολεμήσεις για την Ορθοδοξία». Το 1960 γράφει την πρώτη του εργασία: «Η Άρση των Αναθεμάτων του 1965 ως Προδοσία της Παραδόσεως» – προφητική για τα μετέπειτα. Το 1961 χειροτονείται διάκονος από τον Μητροπολίτη Καλαβρύτων Θεόκλητο, λαμβάνοντας το όνομα Αμβρόσιος. Το 1963 χειροτονείται πρεσβύτερος και διορίζεται εφημέριος στον Ιερό Ναό Αγίου Γεωργίου Αιγίου. Εκεί ιδρύει κατηχητικό με 300 παιδιά, οργανώνει ιεραποστολές στα χωριά, κτίζει παρεκκλήσια. Το 1965, με την Άρση των Αναθεμάτων, γράφει την πρώτη ανοιχτή επιστολή: «Αυτό δεν είναι συμφιλίωση, είναι προδοσία». Η επιστολή δημοσιεύεται στο «Ορθόδοξο Τύπο» και προκαλεί σάλο.

ΔΙΟΙΚΗΤΙΚΗ & ΠΟΙΜΑΝΤΙΚΗ ΔΡΑΣΤΗΡΙΟΤΗΤΑ (1963-1978) Το 1968 διορίζεται Διευθυντής Θρησκευτικής Υπηρεσίας Χωροφυλακής. Οργανώνει κατηχητικά για αστυνομικούς, ιδρύει ναούς σε στρατόπεδα. Το 1970 εκδίδει το πρώτο του βιβλίο: «Η Ορθοδοξία ως Θεραπευτική Αγωγή». Το 1972 γίνεται Γενικός Γραμματέας της Ιεράς Συνόδου. Εκεί έρχεται σε σύγκρουση με τον Αρχιεπίσκοπο Ιερώνυμο Κοτσώνη για την «εκκλησιαστική περιουσία». Το 1974, μετά την πτώση της Χούντας, υπερασπίζεται ιερείς που διώκονται ως «χουντικοί». Το 1976 εκλέγεται Βοηθητικός Επίσκοπος Βελεστίνου. Το 1978, σε ηλικία 40 ετών, εκλέγεται Μητροπολίτης Καλαβρύτων & Αιγιαλείας με 42 ψήφους έναντι 8. Ενθρονίζεται στο Αίγιο (19/11) και στα Καλάβρυτα (25/11). Η ομιλία του: «Ήρθα να πολεμήσω για την Ορθοδοξία, όχι να διαχειριστώ περιουσία».

ΠΡΩΤΟΙ ΑΓΩΝΕΣ ΚΑΤΑ ΟΙΚΟΥΜΕΝΙΣΜΟΥ (1978-1990) • 1978: Πρώτη επιστολή στον Πατριάρχη Δημήτριο για την «κοινή προσευχή» με Παπικούς στην Αγία Σοφία Κωνσταντινουπόλεως. «Αυτό είναι βλασφημία κατά του Αγίου Πνεύματος». • 1980: Αρνείται να συμμετάσχει σε «Διάλογο Αγάπης» με Παπικούς. Δημοσιεύει 15σέλιδο κείμενο: «Ο Διάλογος Αγάπης ως Δούρειος Ίππος». • 1982: Καταγγέλλει την επίσκεψη Πάπα Ιωάννη Παύλου Β' στην Ελλάδα. Χτυπά πένθιμα τις καμπάνες στα Καλάβρυτα. • 1985: Γράφει στον Αρχιεπίσκοπο Σεραφείμ: «Η Άρση των Αναθεμάτων του 1965 είναι άκυρη. Δεν μπορεί να αρθεί αναθεματισμός χωρίς μετάνοια». • 1987: Πρώτη δίκη για «υποκίνηση μίσους» επειδή αποκάλεσε τον Παπισμό «αιρετική παρασυναγωγή». Αθωώνεται. • 1990: Δημοσιεύει το βιβλίο «Ο Οικουμενισμός ως Παναίρεσις» (200 σελίδες).

ΑΓΩΝΕΣ ΚΑΤΑ ΚΥΒΕΡΝΗΤΙΚΗΣ ΠΑΡΕΜΒΑΣΗΣ (1980-2000) • 1987: Νόμος για μοναστηριακή περιουσία. Ο Αμβρόσιος οργανώνει συλλαλητήριο 5.000 ατόμων στο Αίγιο. • 1990: Καταγγέλλει την «αποχριστιανοποίηση» της Παιδείας. Αρνείται να ευλογήσει σχολεία με νέα βιβλία Θρησκευτικών. • 1995: Πρώτη δίκη για «παραβίαση νόμου περί ταυτοτήτων». Αθωώνεται. • 2000: Αφαίρεση θρησκεύματος από ταυτότητες. Χτυπά πένθιμα τις καμπάνες 40 ημέρες. Συλλαλητήριο 10.000 ατόμων στα Καλάβρυτα.

December 8, 1981, Mesana Paphos. Marios Vryonis is born to a farming family. His father Charalambos is a chanter at St. Kendeas. His mother Maria teaches catechism. From age 3, he learns troparia. ANNOUNCEMENT AND CONFESSION OF METROPOLITAN (FORMER) OF PAPHOS TYCHIKOS

Because throughout the previous period up to now, various unsubstantiated claims are circulating about my alleged avoidance to submit a Confession of Faith, or about an alleged deviation in my course, I deem it appropriate to clarify the following to restore the truth.


1. I considered the drafting of the Confession of Faith unnecessary from the beginning, as I align with what I confessed on the day of my ordination, I have not ceased to align and will not cease, and clearly I have not adhered to any error or heresy (far from it!), so as to submit a new confession for alleged reintegration into the Orthodox Church. From my youth, I live and breathe within the Church, with unshakable faith in the Triadic God, in the all-venerable Person of our Lord Jesus Christ and His All-Holy Mother, faith based on Holy Scripture, the Sacred Tradition of the Orthodox Church, the Holy Canons, and the teaching of our Holy Fathers. Therefore, in accordance with the prerequisites of these, I certainly follow, respect, and obey the decisions of the Holy Synod of the Church of Cyprus.


2. After much prayer and thought, I decided to submit the appeal to the Ecumenical Patriarchate, in accordance with the Statutory Charter, as I consider the accusations unsubstantiated and false, but especially the procedure that was (not) followed, renders the decision uncanonical and unconstitutional. The entire development tramples on every notion of respect for the Archiepiscopal Office, but also for fundamental human rights. Of course, I could resort to secular courts. However, following the exhortation of Apostle Paul (1 Cor. 6:1), I chose to resolve the issues within our Church, initially addressing the Ecumenical Patriarchate, trusting that such an unjust procedure and decision cannot be accepted.


3. For reasons of avoiding scandal regarding possible disobedience to the Holy Synod, and to refute every slander against me about alleged walling-off or about a person who encourages and covers up laypeople or clergy to cease the commemoration of their Bishops, I prepared a Confession of Faith before the final decision to submit the appeal, as it was requested in the synodal communiqué of May 22. I always intended to submit it, as I had informed the Beatitude Archbishop of Cyprus H.H. Georgios in our meeting on Friday, May 30.


4. I declare again and repeatedly, explicitly and categorically, that all the accusations do not hold but collapse like a house of cards, and specifically for the accusation of walling-off that is much discussed, indicatively I will mention five cases:


a) August 2023: I placed in suspension a priest of the Metropolis of Paphos who proceeded to walling-off, and finally the competent ecclesiastical court of the Holy Synod proceeded to his defrocking.


b) February 13, 2024: As Metropolitan of Paphos, I disseminated the announcement of the Holy Synod and drew attention to the "Athonite elder Savvas Lavriotis".


c) May 23, 2024: I issued an announcement, after communication with the Holy Monastery of Xanthi, about the self-proclaimed "elder Anna", who was touring the metropolis of Paphos without canonical permission and giving talks in homes.


d) May 10, 2025: I informed in writing the priests of the Metropolis of Paphos about archimandrites who do not have blessing to officiate, as they do not belong to any local Church and do not recognize any orthodox bishop.


e) Regarding the recent "Thessaloniki case", the multi-child priest with origin from Agia Marina Paphos was ordained to serve permanently the Metropolis of Paphos. He was appointed to a large community as parish priest for a long period and always commemorated my name as metropolitan in the holy services he performed in Paphos. For the completion of a postgraduate program, he was granted a license for free officiating, as I also received during my studies in London from the then Metropolitan of Paphos and current Beatitude H.H. Georgios. It was not possible for me to have responsibility or knowledge of his actions outside the boundaries of my Metropolis.


5. Although due to the appeal we are all now awaiting developments in the Ecumenical Patriarchate, however, I submit to the Holy Synod and make public the Confession of Faith that was requested of me. For this reason, I call on the Beatitude, the Synodal Hierarchs, and the faithful People of God, regarding my case, not to rush ahead and to spend the time with prayer and calm.

CONFESSION OF FAITH


I believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all ages; Light of Light, true God of true God, begotten, not made, of one essence with the Father, through whom all things were made. Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became man. He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, and suffered and was buried. And rose on the third day according to the Scriptures. And ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. And he will come again with glory to judge the living and the dead, whose kingdom will have no end. And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father, who together with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who spoke through the prophets. In one holy catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the age to come. Amen.


In addition to these, I accept and receive the holy seven Ecumenical Councils and the Local ones, which they accepted and ratified for the preservation of the orthodox doctrines of the Church assembled. I confess all the definitions of the true faith set forth by them, as guided by the illuminating grace of the All-Holy Spirit, and the Holy Canons, which those blessed ones composed and delivered to the Church according to the apostolic traditions and the meaning of the evangelical divine teaching for the adornment of the Holy Church of Christ and the good order of morals, I embrace and will direct according to them the ministry allotted to me by divine will and according to them I will continue teaching the chosen people of the Lord.


Moreover, I confess foremost to preserve the unity of the faith in the bond of peace, all that the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church of the Orthodox professes and dogmatizes, these I also profess and believe, adding nothing, subtracting nothing, changing nothing neither of the dogmas nor of the traditions, but adhering to these and teaching and preaching them with fear of God and good conscience, and all that it condemns as heterodoxies and rejects, these I also reject and cast away forever. I confess that I remain immovable within the safe walls of the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church, as these were defined and diachronically built by the God-bearing Fathers of the Orthodox Church, having full knowledge that schism constitutes the greatest evil in the Church, which neither the blood of martyrdom of the schismatic or of the one leading others to schism can heal.


Likewise, I have full knowledge that, in accordance with both the spirit of the 31st Apostolic Canon, which received ecumenical validity, and the 15th Canon of the First-Second holy Synod in Constantinople (year of salvation 861) under Saint and Great Photios, which is included in the corpus canonum of our Orthodox Church, summarizes the previous Canons 13 and 14, "The provisions concerning presbyters and bishops and metropolitans apply even more to patriarchs. So that, if any presbyter or bishop or metropolitan dares to withdraw from communion with his own patriarch and does not mention his name, as defined and ordained, in the divine mystagogy, but before a synodal manifestation and complete condemnation of him makes a schism, the holy synod has decreed that he be completely alien to all priesthood, if only he is convicted of this transgression. And these have been sealed and defined concerning those who under pretext of certain crimes withdraw from their own presidents and create schism and disrupt the unity of the Church. For those who on account of some heresy condemned by holy Synods or Fathers separate themselves from communion with their president, that is, because he publicly preaches heresy and with bare head teaches it in the church, such persons not only are not subject to canonical censure for walling themselves off from communion with the so-called bishop before synodal clarification, but also shall be deemed worthy of the honor appropriate to the orthodox. For they have condemned not bishops, but pseudo-bishops and pseudo-teachers, and they have not cut the unity of the church with schism, but have endeavored to deliver the church from schisms and divisions."


I have knowledge that this canon gives the right to a cleric or bishop (which it defines as praiseworthy walling-off), to cease the commemoration of his ecclesiastical authority (however not to commemorate another bishop or ecclesiastical authority), as long as his own bishop preaches publicly and with bare head in church a heresy condemned by the holy Synods or by the Holy Fathers. The exercise of this right before synodal judgment about a bishop preaching heresy presupposes discernment and divine illumination. Insofar as, if this is done under unbridled zealotry, and without the prerequisites provided by the above holy Canons existing, it is possible to lead to schism, which, as easily as it is created, is as difficult to cease.


I make known therefore that I never examined by myself the possibility of ceasing commemoration, and for this reason I co-celebrated until now with the Archbishop of Cyprus, as well as the other Synodal Hierarchs, and I always commemorated the name of the Beatitude Archbishop of Cyprus in the holy Services and Divine Liturgies, which I performed. Furthermore, I never covered up any walled-off person, nor encouraged a cleric or layperson to apply walling-off.


I confess that I condemn ecclesiastically and irrevocably as schismatics, according to the divine and holy Canons, those who under the pretext of walling-off, possessed by a spirit of love of power and "under pretext of certain crimes of their own superior" or "for ecclesiastical matters that are curable", according to the God-illumined Great Basil, separate themselves from the common nourisher and savior Orthodox Church in the East of all of us. Equally I condemn all those anathematized by the Church synodically or by the unanimous opinion of the divine Fathers through the ages as heretics; "a heretic is and is subject to the laws against heretics whoever deviates even a little from the Orthodox Faith", according to the orthodox ecclesiology imprinted in Photios' Nomocanon.


I confess that I will obey willingly, in accordance with the guidance and provisions of the divinely inspired Dogmas and Canons of our Catholic Holy Orthodox Church, to the decisions of the Holy Synod of the Church of Cyprus.

The Persecution of a Metropolitan and the Devaluation of Ecclesiastical Justice


"A monument of arbitrariness" the Synod's decision against Metropolitan of Paphos Tychikos

As a "monument" of arbitrariness, abuse of power, violation of the Holy Canons and every principle of law, the decision of the Holy Synod of the Church of Cyprus for the "deposition" of Metropolitan of Paphos Tychikos will remain in history.


Reviewing the relevant sources, researchers will reasonably wonder about the unprecedented and unprecedented ecclesiastical crime. The highest Ecclesiastical Authority of Cyprus, which has the exclusive responsibility to ensure the observance, correct interpretation and application of the Statutory Charter, bypassed the institutionalized procedures provided by it and the Holy Canons and condemned without elementary evidence a member of it based on a fabricated indictment that has no canonical support.


It decided without hesitation the persecution of a Metropolitan from his throne, indifferent to the pastoral needs of the people who trusted him as their spiritual father and guide.


It acted with unprecedented severity towards one of its members, while at the same time remaining apathetic and tolerant of the arbitrary actions of the Locum Tenens of the Throne who proceeds to administrative acts in violation of the Statutory Charter and who has forbidden Metropolitan Tychikos to perform Divine Liturgies in his metropolitan district without ever having been placed in suspension by the Holy Synod.


And while all this is happening, silence covers everything! Let the truth be persecuted, let legality and justice be violated, let the intelligence of the faithful be underestimated. The guilt of those responsible arises not only from the prevailing silence and the fear to speak the truth, but also from their effort to justify their decision and convince that they acted correctly.


Even the platform of the conference organized by the Holy Archdiocese of Cyprus last June in honor of the Holy Fathers of the First Ecumenical Council was used by its organizers to indicate to the clergy and people of the archdiocesan district that they should feel grateful for the decision of the Holy Synod.


The best way to honor the Holy Fathers is not organizing conferences but keeping and applying their decisions!


Never before has any political or ecclesiastical authority in this place dared to challenge or bypass the institutionalized procedures in force in the Church to impose its will arbitrarily.


We refer briefly to four cases that stood out due to their criticality and importance for the Church.


During the period of the so-called Archiepiscopal Issue (1900-1909), even the English tyrants had respected the procedures followed by the Church, when they imposed a political law to restore order, as there was no Statutory Charter in force then. This law that provided for the filling of the archiepiscopal throne was drafted based on the canonical opinion of a senior cleric, Meletios Metaxakis, and the elections had been announced based on an encyclical of the Holy Synod.


In 1973, in the most painful ecclesiastical crisis this place has ever known, due to the tragic events that followed, Metropolitans of Paphos Gennadios, Kition Anthimos, and Kyrenia Kyprianos defrocked Archbishop Makarios III, on the grounds that his involvement in political affairs was incompatible with his archiepiscopal status. The three Metropolitans applied article 14 of the then Statutory Charter in force, which allowed the Holy Synod, which then consisted of 4 members, to impose the specific penalty, provided there was a unanimous decision among the three of them. It should be noted that with this specific provision, the Holy Canons were violated, which indicate that the accused Hierarch is tried by a Synodal Court consisting of at least 12 Hierarchs. Reacting, Archbishop Makarios III applied his right acquired from the Holy Canons, as President of the Holy Synod, to request the assistance of the four Orthodox Patriarchs of the East and the Church of Greece. Responding to his request, they sent representatives through whom a Greater and Extraordinary Synod was formed that met the required number needed to proceed to the defrocking of the three Metropolitans, judging their decision as uncanonical.


In 2000, when the Greater and Extraordinary Synod acquitted triumphantly Metropolitan of Limassol Athanasios from the accusations of moral deviations and revealed the plot woven against him - with instigators members of the Holy Synod and the assistance of false witnesses - it was considered a victory of the synodal system and the Holy Canons without the application of which justice would never have been served and the truth would never have been restored.


Regarding the way the late Archbishop Chrysostomos II (2006-2022) ascended to the throne, much has been said and written. Despite what happened behind the scenes and came to light (holy agreements, influencing electors, etc.), the procedure was legal and everything was done in compliance with the relevant provisions of the then Statutory Charter of 1979.


The above cases indicate to us the importance of the correct interpretation and application of the Holy Canons and the Statutory Charter for maintaining the unity of the faithful and the smooth functioning of the Church as a Theanthropic Organism in the world. On the contrary, every legal injustice, when committed by persons who must inspire respect, irreparably damages the prestige of the decisions of the Holy Synod and the credibility of its members (at least those who supported for their own reasons each the "deposition" of the Metropolitan of Paphos). Even if there were reasonable grounds for a member of the Synod to be tried, this should be done within the framework defined by the Statutory Charter. The bypassing of it alone and the way the decision was made creates even in the most well-intentioned the impression that it is a methodical effort that serves alien purposes and interests and in no case the interest of the Church and especially of the faithful of the metropolitan district of Paphos.

The mother church decided the most oxymoronic of the last 2000 years. Literally:


"During the examination of the file of the matter, omissions were found during the trial of the case of Metropolitan Tychikos in the Holy Synod of the Church of Cyprus", but....


It was finally recommended to the former Metropolitan of Paphos to obey the decisions of the Holy Synod of his Church and this for his own spiritual benefit and for the peace and unity of the Church.


It is certain that yesterday will be a pivotal point of reference... for the next millennia for the Orthodox church. I don't know if it will be celebrated festively or if it will be a day of fasting (mourning) but it certainly won't be forgotten. Laughter or tears it will surely bring though.


Perhaps then yesterday's day will remain in history — not as a day of wisdom, but as a day of ecclesiastical self-censorship.


Yes, the indictment was laughable, with canonical omissions, but also with the sit Bishop in your boiled and obey the injustice you suffered for the good and peace in the church. The Phanar essentially recognizes festively the omissions in the deposition of Metropolitan Tychikos and the malfeasance, but ratifies the decision and calls on him to obey – a paradox that reveals the crack between canonicity and diplomacy. In simple words: the Patriarchate admits that the procedure was uncanonical, but asks the aggrieved to accept it for the sake of... humility.


If this is not an institutional contradiction, then what is? Since when is obedience used as a cover for injustice?


Since when does obedience serve as a pretext to legitimize an injustice?


How to speak of peace, when peace is built on the silence of the unjustly condemned?


The case of Tychikos, however, is not personal. It is a symptom of a deeper problem: the transformation of ecclesiastical institutions from guardians of the faith into balancing mechanisms.


The stance of the Phanar sends a dangerous message: that ecclesiastical unity can be saved even by disregarding canonicity.


Obedience is indeed a virtue – when addressed to Christ and His truth.


However, when it turns into a pretext to legitimize an injustice, then it ceases to be obedience, it becomes complicity.


However, within the decision and behind the words hide meanings that the common mind, Georgios and those around him Hierarchs understand very well and know.


On the one hand is the non-acquittal of Tychikos through the malfeasance, which the Patriarchate initially recognized as some of us know (what changed along the way? let the one who understands understand) but on the other hand it nails Georgios and his team.... You didn't do it well, your indictment suffers from omissions, but what can be done (so as not to have problems with the church of Cyprus) we ratify your decision.


Essentially it exposes irreparably Georgios and his actions. Of course Georgios is not satisfied with the wording, since he would like the Phanar's decision to say only: we ratify the decision of the church of Cyprus!! Commonly if the Phanar's wording was in slang it would say to him:


The way you messed it up, what can we do for you, stay with the decision you made. Of course the reason is that within the patriarchate there were fierce reactions from hierarchs to the injustice that was committed, even after the circumscribed and gasping "unanimous" decision. Essentially Tychikos and those who supported him were vindicated. Completely irregular the procedure, which the Phanar admitted. This paper of the Patriarchate is very strong however for a possible future appeal to civil courts. And I am sure that even if it falls to an atheist judge, he himself will learn the ecclesiastical: "I wonder and am amazed.. "!!


It would be an omission to mention that in a radio interview last week Georgios stated that: "as locum tenens of the Metr. of Paphos who is himself it would not be right to make binding decisions for Paphos (in relation to a temple in the garden they want to build) but to wait for the elections for the election of a new metropolitan!!!". That is, before the Phanar convened he knew the decision! That Tychikos would not be vindicated and would not be restored. Do we need to say anything else?


This is one side of the coin of the decision. The other is that the Phanar itself was irreparably exposed with its Pontius Pilate attitude. It recognizes the omissions and malfeasance but does nothing. I wash my hands... And since it is easier to beat the saddle than the donkey, it beats the saddle. I don't want to offend anyone with this proverb but I couldn't find a more apt one.


As for the Cypriot hierarchs who advocated this malfeasance stood behind the word of the Archbishop, not because they believed, but because they were comfortable. Each for his reasons. And I suspect for some why..


The stance of Metropolitan Tychikos hurt him in the human part but according to the Phanar's decision about malfeasance he was vindicated. He was vindicated not by the ratification of Georgios' decision as investigator, accuser and judge (not even in Islam do these happen) but by the proof of malfeasance. In 3 hours they deposed him and the Phanar took 3 months and more to see what to say. The pressure was suffocating..


Without a trace of exaggeration and knowing the humble and forgiving character of Metr. Tychikos his story resembles that of Saint Nektarios. His father the Patriarch of Alexandria expelled him without evidence, slandered him, defamed him to the Archbishop of Athens etc but in the end whom does God and history know? Saint Nektarios and not the anonymous Patriarch of Alexandria.


And from what I know our archbishop celebrates and accepts Saint Nektarios.


Does he realize however that he took the place of the then Patriarch of Alexandria 140 years later?

On the occasion of the admission of the former Paphos Tychikos to the hospital with a "serious health problem", something is revealed to us that the Fathers of our Church know and record in many texts or speeches of theirs and is much said even in the divinely inspired texts of services and supplications to our Lord, the Theotokos and our Saints.


"The body is sick, my soul is also sick". So we know this and we see it again every day in front of us, in fact now the very advanced science has arrived gasping to confirm it.


What? That the disease of the body, every disease, has a direct relationship (both in causing it and in the possibility of curing it) with the person's mental state: the serenity, the calm, the love he has or does not have, that he receives or not, in this course of his in the world. In fact, the more sensitive in character and introverted someone is, the symptoms from the disease of the soul are more intense, painful and visible on him, either as sorrow, or as some autoimmune, or as cancer or heart disease or brain damage.


What our Fathers did not tell us so clearly and no one usually discusses, is the indisputable fact that the evil of some people can cause serious diseases up to death in others and especially in the defenseless, in the more sensitive and helpless of this harsh world. So we see in the case of Tychikos, evil in all its depth unfolding luciferianly with the mantle of the official decision of the synod of the Church of Cyprus and the Ecumenical Patriarchate and this evil causing serious disease in a simple, humble, sensitive and traditional hierarch who dared to think in his ministry that he can follow the Holy Fathers in his province at least. He did not suspect that his spiritual "father-monster" would react with such egoism and evil that he would reach the point of even deposition from the apostolic and archiepiscopal office of a hierarch who otherwise did no evil.


For what real reason was he persecuted, someone will tell us? Those inhabiting Jerusalem know well and others are silent washing hands and fearing their own persecution, others do not understand and wonder, others weaker in faith are scandalized, others are amazed at the audacity, the unfathomable depth of evil and consequently the persecution of Tychikos. And evil of course is not a negligible force: it is demonic energy and whoever bears it and exercises it cannot but be led and carried by demonic forces, while of course his consent and cooperation with the temptation of wealth, power, archomania, avarice and the delusion that someone alone, whatever office he has, can govern the Church as if it were his little shop, with commercial terms and street methods.


To all of us, priests, laymen, theologians, tholologists, ecologists, monks and unmonked and especially hierarchs who boast that they know the scriptures by heart and use verses in their speeches, we should remind that "God is love" (1 Jn. 4:16). And this is evangelical you know and perhaps the strongest and saving message of the Gospel. Our Lord IS love, he does not simply have love. So who is evil? Do I need to mention it? I don't even want to mention his name. With simple mathematics then to conclude that whoever exercises and embraces and agrees and is silent with the evil he sees in front of him, essentially cooperates and applauds the leader of evil.


To see how luciferian is all this handling of Tychikos by some, consider that in the name of love these are ready to embrace and walk with papists, protestants, mormons, evangelists and other heretics whose end will not be, but they cannot in the name of love forgive Tychikos nor accept him and walk with him, while he is an Orthodox Christian.. baptized and spirit-bearing.


And to close by posing a question to all those who condemned the former Paphos Tychikos and all those who agreed with his condemnation: if Tychikos from the much evil he received in his soul and body, as demonic and violent energy, does not endure and finally dies from a disease that however was caused by evil, will those who exercised violence and evil on him have some spiritual responsibility? Have they fallen into the sin of the criminal of murder either knowingly or out of ignorance? Will we preach murder only for abortions? Will the Church condemn only the murderers who are in prisons as killers who need repentance? And if some of them finally repent, before they leave this vain world, while they have killed Tychikos and every Tychikos, will it be considered that they are clean and blameless?


These are of God someone will say and I agree: the final judgment is His exclusive affair. However, I am not speaking about the final judgment and the classification of each in Paradise or in perdition, but about the classification of each of us in the conscience of the Church in this life and if possible in the restoration of truth to the extent of this life. Some obviously should not continue to pretend and behave as pure and infallible. The Pope started this (obviously it suited many in the course of ecclesiastical history) and today's accept it as a right intertwined with their priesthood and archpriesthood. With the consequence of course to have long lost the hope of their repentance. For how can someone repent, when he always considers correct what he does and does everything to prove he is right?


In conclusion, the case of the former Paphos Tychikos highlighted once again a spiritually deadly disease that exists within the body of the Church, which when connected with the office and high position turns into a lethal weapon that shatters the soul and spiritual existence while often sickens the body to death. Such a person within the Church is a murderer of the soul and the body, while our Christ is the physician of our soul and body (as explicitly mentioned in the Divine Liturgy)


Such attitudes and behaviors are found throughout ecclesiastical and human history, but today they are probably now the rule and not the exception. Let us turn to the innermost of our heart and fight evil within us. It is necessary to uproot this weed from within us, before it becomes a deadly and bitter tree that kills not only our own self but also the others on whom we exercise it with whatever pretext and excuse..


As for the former Paphos Tychikos himself, we wish him to follow to the end the course and stance of our Holy Fathers, old and contemporary. To sit on the side, silently prayerfully, until the First and Great High Priest of our Orthodox Church gives the final solution. As did the Great Holy Hierarchs, the Great Athanasios, Saint Gregory the Theologian, Saint John Chrysostom, the Great Basil, Saint Gregory Palamas, Saint Mark Eugenikos, Saint Nektarios and so many other Holy Bishops, Confessors and Martyrs of our Orthodox faith. The living examples have preceded for centuries in our Ecclesiastical History. He knows with His unspeakable and philanthropic Providence what is His spiritual and saving Will for each of us. But we know from the scriptures that love for Christ casts out fear (1 Jn. 4:18). So let him not fear and accept upon his existence all the fury, injustice and evil with trust in His will. We all wish for this.

16 So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen.

Bishop Tychikos is hospitalized in an Athens hospital


Bishop Tychikos is reportedly in a hospital in Athens, according to a post by a group of his friends on Social Media.

As his group of friends and supporters claim, he is facing a health problem, underwent a series of tests and was subsequently admitted.

They already add, through a letter he sent to the Archbishop of Cyprus, that he told him that "Coming from Constantinople, he did not feel well and stayed in Athens for examinations."

They also add that any members within the Holy Synod who "question or are concerned will be able to call the doctors to inform them."

They pointed out, however, that none of them had looked for him for so many months, nor had anyone called him, specifically saying that if they had looked for him, they would have known about his health condition.

Bishop Tychikos, in a relevant video posted by his group of friends and supporters, asks for everyone's prayers, just as he himself prays for Paphos, which he loves so much, but also for the whole of Cyprus, and for every Christian.

"May this trial pass and better days come for our Church," he notes. Finally, he praised God and thanked him.

The health problem he faced reportedly arose before his departure for the Ecumenical Patriarchate, authoritative sources report.

As for the confession of faith requested of him by the Holy Synod, Bishop Tychikos seems to still believe that he signed it on June 18, 2025 at 11:10 in the morning and sent it to the Office of the Holy Synod, through which he explicitly clarifies that he accepts all the decisions of the ecumenical councils. It is also alleged that for this reason, according to the same information, he considers that he meets the requirements requested of him on May 22 by the Holy Synod and does not need to sign anything else.

ΑΝΑΚΟΙΝΩΣΗ και ΟΜΟΛΟΓΙΑ Μητροπολίτου (πρ.) Πάφου Τυχικού

Επειδή καθ' όλο το προηγούμενο διάστημα μέχρι και τώρα, διακινούνται διάφοροι ανυπόστατοι ισχυρισμοί περί δήθεν αποφυγής μου να καταθέσω Ομολογία Πίστεως, ή περί δήθεν παρεκκλίσεως της πορείας μου, κρίνω σκόπιμο προς αποκατάσταση της αληθείας να διευκρινίσω τα εξής.

1. Την σύνταξη της Ομολογίας Πίστεως την θεωρούσα εξ αρχής άνευ λόγου, καθότι συντάσσομαι με ό,τι και ομολόγησα κατά την ημέρα της χειροτονίας μου, δεν έπαψα να συντάσσομαι και ούτε θα πάψω, και σαφώς δεν προσχώρησα σε καμία πλάνη ή αίρεση (φεύ!), ώστε να υποβάλω εκ νέου ομολογία για δήθεν επανένταξή μου στην Ορθόδοξη Εκκλησία. Εκ νεότητός μου ζω και αναπνέω μέσα στην Εκκλησία, με ακλόνητη πίστη στον Τριαδικό Θεό, στο πάνσεπτο Πρόσωπο του Κυρίου ημών Ιησού Χριστού και της Υπεραγίας Μητρός Του, πίστη που βασίζεται στην Αγία Γραφή, στην Ιερά Παράδοση της Ορθόδοξης Εκκλησίας, στους Ιερούς Κανόνες και στη διδασκαλία των Αγίων Πατέρων μας. Σύμφωνα λοιπόν με τις προϋποθέσεις αυτών, ασφαλώς ακολουθώ, σέβομαι και υπακούω στις αποφάσεις της Ιεράς Συνόδου της Εκκλησίας της Κύπρου.

2. Ύστερα από πολλή προσευχή και σκέψη, αποφάσισα να υποβάλω την έκκλητο προσφυγή στο Οικουμενικό Πατριαρχείο, σύμφωνα με τον Καταστατικό Χάρτη, καθώς θεωρώ τις κατηγορίες ανυπόστατες και ψευδείς, όλως ιδιαιτέρως όμως η διαδικασία που (δεν) ακολουθήθηκε, καθιστά την απόφαση αντικανονική και αντικαταστατική. Η όλη εξέλιξη καταστρατηγεί κάθε έννοια σεβασμού προς το Αρχιερατικό Αξίωμα, αλλά και προς τα θεμελιώδη ανθρώπινα δικαιώματα. Θα μπορούσα, βεβαίως, να προσφύγω στα κοσμικά δικαστήρια. Όμως, κατά την προτροπή του αποστόλου Παύλου (Α΄ Κορ. 6,1), επέλεξα την επίλυση των ζητημάτων εντός της Εκκλησίας μας, απευθυνόμενος αρχικά στο Οικουμενικό Πατριαρχείο, έχοντας εμπιστοσύνη ότι μια τόσο άδικη διαδικασία και απόφαση δεν μπορεί να γίνει αποδεκτή.

3. Για λόγους αποφυγής σκανδαλισμού σχετικά με ενδεχόμενη ανυπακοή στην Ιερά Σύνοδο, και προς κατάρριψη κάθε συκοφαντίας εναντίον μου περί δήθεν αποτειχίσεως ή περί ανθρώπου που προτρέπει και συγκαλύπτει λαϊκούς ή κληρικούς να διακόψουν το μνημόσυνο των Επισκόπων τους, ετοίμασα Ομολογία Πίστεως και προ της τελικής αποφάσεως να καταθέσω έκκλητο, όπως αυτή μου ζητήθηκε στο συνοδικό ανακοινωθέν της 22 Μαΐου. Είχα πάντοτε την πρόθεση να την υποβάλω, όπως άλλωστε είχα ενημερώσει και τον ίδιο τον Μακαριώτατο Αρχιεπίσκοπο Κύπρου κ.κ. Γεώργιο στη συνάντησή μας την Παρασκευή 30 Μαΐου.

4. Δηλώνω πάλιν και πολλάκις, ρητώς και κατηγορηματικώς, πως όλες οι κατηγορίες δεν ευσταθούν αλλά καταρρίπτονται ως χάρτινος πύργος, και συγκεκριμένα για την κατηγορία της αποτειχίσεως που γίνεται πολύς λόγος, ενδεικτικά θα αναφέρω πέντε περιπτώσεις:

α) Αύγουστος 2023: Έθεσα σε αργία ιερέα της Μητρόπολης Πάφου, που προέβη σε αποτείχιση, και τελικώς το αρμόδιο εκκλησιαστικό δικαστήριο της Ιεράς Συνόδου προχώρησε στην καθαίρεσή του.

β) 13 Φεβρουαρίου 2024: κοινοποίησα ως μητροπολίτης Πάφου, την ανακοίνωση της Ιεράς Συνόδου και επέστησα την προσοχή για τον “αγιορείτη γέροντα Σάββα Λαυριώτη".

γ) 23 Μαΐου 2024: εξέδωσα ανακοίνωση, ύστερα από επικοινωνία μου με την Ι.Μ. Ξάνθης, περί της αυτοαποκαλούμενης “γερόντισσας Άννης”, που περιερχόταν την μητρόπολη Πάφου χωρίς κανονική άδεια και έκανε ομιλίες σε σπίτια.

δ) 10 Μαΐου 2025: ενημέρωσα γραπτώς τους ιερείς της Μητρόπολης Πάφου, για αρχιμανδρίτες που δεν έχουν ευλογία να ιεροπρακτούν, καθώς δεν ανήκουν σε καμία τοπική Εκκλησία και δεν αναγνωρίζουν κανένα ορθόδοξο επίσκοπο.

ε) Όσον αφορά την πρόσφατη υπόθεση “της Θεσσαλονίκης", ο πολύτεκνος ιερέας με καταγωγή από την Αγία Μαρίνα Πάφου, χειροτονήθηκε για να υπηρετεί μόνιμα την Μητρόπολη Πάφου. Διορίστηκε σε μεγάλη κοινότητα ιερατικός προϊστάμενος για μεγάλο διάστημα και μνημόνευε πάντοτε το όνομά μου ως μητροπολίτη, στις ιερές ακολουθίες που τελούσε στην Πάφο. Για την εκπόνηση μεταπτυχιακού προγράμματος, του χορηγήθηκε άδεια ελευθεροιεροπραξίας, όπως άλλωστε έλαβα και εγώ κατά την περίοδο των σπουδών μου στο Λονδίνο από τον τότε Μητροπολίτη Πάφου και νυν Μακαριώτατο κ.κ. Γεώργιο. Δεν ήταν δυνατόν να έχω ευθύνη ή γνώση των ενεργειών του εκτός των ορίων της Μητροπόλεώς μου.

5. Αν και λόγω του εκκλήτου όλοι πλέον τελούμε εν αναμονή των εξελίξεων στο Οικουμενικό Πατριαρχείο, όμως καταθέτω στην Ιερά Σύνοδο και δίνω στην δημοσιότητα την Ομολογία Πίστεως που μου ζητήθηκε. Γι'αυτό και καλώ τον Μακαριώτατο, τους Συνοδικούς Αρχιερείς και τον πιστό Λαό του Θεού, όσον αφορά την υπόθεσή μου, να μην προτρέχουμε και να διαγάγουμε το διάστημα με προσευχή και ηρεμία.

Πρὸς δὲ τούτοις στέργω καὶ ἀποδέχομαι τὰς ἁγίας ἑπτὰ Οἰκουμενικὰς Συνόδους καὶ τῶν Τοπικῶν, ἃς ἐκεῖναι ἀποδεξάμεναι ἐκύρωσαν ἐπὶ φυλακῇ τῶν ὀρθοδόξων τῆς Ἐκκλησίας δογμάτων ἀθροισθεῖσαι. Ὁμολογῶ πάντας τοὺς ὑπ᾿ αὐτῶν, ὡς ὑπὸ φωτιστικῆς χάριτος τοῦ Παναγίου Πνεύματος ὁδηγουμένους, ἐκτεθέντας ὅρους τῆς ὀρθῆς πίστεως καὶ τοὺς Ἱεροὺς Κανόνας, οὓς οἱ μακάριοι ἐκεῖνοι πρὸς τὴν τῆς Ἁγίας τοῦ Χριστοῦ Ἐκκλησίας διακόσμησιν καὶ τῶν ἠθῶν εὐταξίαν κατὰ τὰς ἀποστολικὰς παραδόσεις καὶ τὴν διάνοιαν τῆς εὐαγγελικῆς θείας διδασκαλίας συντάξαντες παρέδωκαν τῇ Ἐκκλησίᾳ, ἐνστερνίζομαι καὶ κατ᾿ αὐτοὺς ἰθύνειν ἐπιμελήσομαι τὴν θείῳ βουλήματι κληρωθεῖσάν μοι διακονίαν καὶ κατ᾿ αὐτοὺς διατελέσω διδάσκων τὸν περιούσιον λαὸν τοῦ Κυρίου.

Προὐργιαίτατα δέ μοι ὁμολογεῖται, ἵνα τηρῶ τὴν ἑνότητα τῆς πίστεως ἐν τῷ συνδέσμῳ τῆς εἰρήνης, πάντα μὲν, ὅσα ἡ Μία, Ἀγία, Καθολικὴ καὶ Ἀποστολικὴ Ἐκκλησία τῶν Ὀρθοδόξων πρεσβεύουσα δογματίζει, ταῦτα πρεσβεύων καὶ ἐγὼ καὶ πιστεύων, μηδὲν προστιθεὶς, μηδὲν ἀφαιρῶν, μηδὲν μεταβάλλων μήτε τῶν δογμάτων, μήτε τῶν παραδόσεων, ἀλλὰ τούτοις ἐμμένων καὶ ταῦτα μετὰ φόβου Θεοῦ καὶ ἀγαθῆς συνειδήσεως διδάσκων καὶ κηρύττων, πάντα δὲ ὅσα ἐκείνη κατακρίνουσα ὡς ἑτεροδιδασκαλίας ἀποδοκιμάζει, ταῦτα καὶ ἐγὼ ἀποδοκιμάζων καὶ ἀποδιοπομπευόμενος διὰ παντός. Ὁμολογῶ ὅτι παραμένω ἀμετακίνητος ἐντὸς τῶν ἀσφαλῶν τειχῶν τῆς Μιᾶς, Ἁγίας, Καθολικῆς καὶ Ἀποστολικῆς Ἐκκλησίας, ὡς ταῦτα καθώρισαν καὶ διαχρονικῶς ᾠκοδόμησαν οἱ θεοφόροι Πατέρες τῆς Ὀρθοδόξου Ἐκκλησίας, ἔχων πλήρη τὴν ἐπίγνωσιν ὅτι τὸ σχίσμα συνιστᾷ μέγιστον κακὸν εἰς τὴν Ἐκκλησίαν, τὸ ὁποῖον οὔτε αἷμα μαρτυρίου τοῦ ἀποσχισθέντος ἢ τοῦ παρασύραντος ἄλλους εἰς σχίσμα δύναται νὰ θεραπεύσῃ.

Ὡσαύτως, ἔχω πλήρη ἐπίγνωσιν ὅτι, συμφώνως πρός τε τὸ πνεῦμα τοῦ 31ου Ἀποστολικοῦ Κανόνος, λαβόντος κῦρος οἰκουμενικὸν, πρός τε τὸν 15ον Κανόνα τῆς Πρωτοδευτέρας ἐν Κωνσταντινουπόλει ἁγίας Συνόδου (σωτηρίου ἔτους 861) ἐπὶ τοῦ Ἁγίου καὶ Μεγάλου Φωτίου, ὁ ὁποῖος ἔχει μὲν ἐνταχθῇ εἰς τὸ corpus canonum τῆς Ὀρθοδόξου Ἐκκλησίας μας, συνοψίζει δὲ τὰ τῶν προηγουμένων Κανόνων 13ου καὶ 14ου, «Τὰ ὁρισθέντα περὶ πρεσβυτέρων καὶ ἐπισκόπων καὶ μητροπολιτῶν, πολλῷ μᾶλλον ἐπὶ πατριαρχῶν ἁρμόζει. Ὥστε, εἴ τις πρεσβύτερος ἤ ἐπίσκοπος ἢ μητροπολίτης τολμήσοι ἀποστῆναι τῆς πρὸς τὸν οἰκεῖον πατριάρχην κοινωνίας καὶ μὴ ἀναφέροι τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ, κατὰ τὸ ὡρισμένον καὶ τεταγμένον, ἐν τῇ θείᾳ μυσταγωγία, ἀλλὰ πρὸ ἐμφανείας συνοδικῆς καὶ τελείας αὐτοῦ κατακρίσεως σχίσμα ποιήσοι, τοῦτον ὥρισεν ή ἁγία σύνοδος, πάσης ἱερατείας παντελῶς ἀλλότριον εἶναι, εἰ μόνον ἐλεγχθείη τοῦτο παρανομήσας. Καὶ ταῦτα μὲν ἐσφράγισταί τε καὶ ὥρισται περὶ τῶν προφάσει τινῶν ἐγκλημάτων τῶν οἰκείων ἀφισταμένων προέδρων καὶ σχίσμα ποιούντων καὶ τὴν ἕνωσιν τῆς Ἐκκλησίας διασπώντων. Οἱ γὰρ δι' αἵρεσίν τινα, παρὰ τῶν ἁγίων Συνόδων ἢ Πατέρων κατεγνωσμένην, τῆς πρὸς τὸν πρόεδρον κοινωνίας ἑαυτοὺς διαστέλλοντες, ἐκείνου δηλονότι τὴν αἵρεσιν δημοσίᾳ κηρύττοντος καὶ γυμνῇ τῇ κεφαλῇ ἐπ᾿ ἐκκλησίας διδάσκοντος, οἱ τοιοῦτοι οὐ μόνον τῇ κανονικῇ ἐπιτιμήσει οὐχ ὑπόκεινται, πρὸ συνοδικῆς διαγνώσεως ἑαυτοὺς τῆς πρὸς τὸν καλούμενον ἐπίσκοπον κοινωνίας ἀποτειχίζοντες, ἀλλὰ καὶ τῆς πρεπούσης τιμῆς τοῖς ὀρθοδόξοις ἀξιωθήσονται. Οὐ γὰρ ἐπισκόπων, ἀλλὰ ψευδεπισκόπων καὶ ψευδοδιδασκάλων κατέγνωσαν, καὶ οὐ σχίσματι τὴν ἕνωσιν τῆς ἐκκλησίας κατέτεμον, ἀλλὰ σχισμάτων καὶ μερισμῶν τὴν ἐκκλησίαν ἐσπούδασαν ῥύσασθαι».

Ἔχω ἐπίγνωσιν ὅτι ὁ κανὼν οὗτος δίδει μὲν τὸ δικαίωμα εἰς κληρικὸν ἢ ἐπίσκοπον (τὸ ὁποῖον καὶ ὁρίζει ὡς ἀποτείχισιν ἐπαινουμένην), ἵνα παύῃ τὸ μνημόσυνον τῆς ἐκκλησιαστικῆς αὐτοῦ ἀρχῆς (οὐχὶ ὅμως καὶ νὰ μνημονεύῃ ἑτέρου ἐπισκόπου ἢ ἐκκλησιαστικῆς ἀρχῆς), ἐφ᾿ ὅσον ὅμως ὁ οἰκεῖος ἐπίσκοπος κηρύττῃ δημοσίᾳ καὶ γυμνῇ τῇ κεφαλῇ ἐπ᾿ ἐκκλησίας αἵρεσιν κατεγνωσμένην ὑπὸ τῶν ἁγίων Συνόδων ἢ ὑπὸ τῶν Ἁγίων Πατέρων. Ἡ ἄσκησις τοῦ δικαιώματος τούτου πρὸ τῆς συνοδικῆς διαγνώσεως περὶ ἐπισκόπου κηρύττοντος αἵρεσιν προϋποθέτει διάκρισιν καὶ θεῖον φωτισμόν. Καθ' ὅσον, ἐὰν τοῦτο γένηται ὑπὸ ἀκρίτου ζηλωτισμού, καὶ χωρὶς νὰ ὑφίστανται αἱ ὑπὸ τῶν ὡς ἄνω ἱερῶν Κανόνων προβλεπόμεναι προϋποθέσεις, εἶναι δυνατὸν νὰ ὁδηγήσῃ εἰς σχίσμα, τὸ ὁποῖον, ὅσον εὔκολα δημιουργεῖται, τόσον καὶ δύσκολα καταπαύεται.

Καθιστῶ γνωστὸν λοιπὸν ὅτι οὐδέποτε ἐξήτασα καθ' ἑαυτὸν τὸ ἐνδεχόμενον διακοπής μνημονεύσεως, καὶ διὰ τοῦτο καὶ συνελειτούργουν μέχρι τώρα μὲ τὸν Ἀρχιεπίσκοπον Κύπρου, ὅσον καὶ τοὺς λοιποὺς Συνοδικοὺς Ἀρχιερεῖς, πάντοτε δὲ ἐμνημόνευον τὸ ὄνομα τοῦ Μακαριωτάτου Ἀρχιεπισκόπου Κύπρου εἰς τὰς ἱερὰς Ἀκολουθίας καὶ Θείας Λειτουργίας, τὰς ὁποίας ἐτέλουν. Περαιτέρω, οὐδέποτε συνεκάλυψα όποιονδήποτε ἀποτειχισθέντα, οὐδὲ παρώτρυνα κληρικὸν ἢ λαϊκὸν νὰ ἐφαρμόσει ἀποτείχισιν.

Ὁμολογῷ, ὅτι καταδικάζω ἐκκλησιαστικῶς καὶ ἀνεξαιρέτως ὡς σχισματικούς, κατὰ τοὺς θείους καὶ ἱεροὺς Κανόνας, ὅσους προσχήματι τῆς ἀποτειχίσεως, πνεύματι φιλαρχίας κυριευθέντας καί «προφάσει τινῶν ἐγκλημάτων τοῦ οἰκείου προϊσταμένου» ἤτοι «διὰ ἐκκλησιαστικά ζητήματα ἰάσιμα», κατὰ τὸν θεοφάντορα Μέγα Βασίλειον, ἀποσχίζονται τῆς κοινῆς πάντων ἡμῶν τροφοῦ καὶ σώτειρας Ὀρθοδόξου κατ' ἀνατολὰς Ἁγίας Ἐκκλησίας. Ἐξ ἴσου καταδικάζω πάντας τοὺς τῇ Ἐκκλησίᾳ συνοδικῶς ἢ καθ' ὁμοφωνίαν τῶν θείων Πατέρων ἀναθεματιζομένους διὰ τῶν αἰώνων αἱρετικούς· «αἱρετικὸς δέ ἐστι καὶ τοῖς κατὰ τῶν αἱρετικῶν ὑπόκειται νόμοις ὁ μικρὸν γοῦν ἐκκλίνων τῆς Ὀρθοδόξου Πίστεως», κατὰ τὴν ὀρθόδοξον ἐκκλησιολογίαν ἀποτυπωθεῖσαν εἰς τὸν τοῦ Φωτίου Νομοκάνονα.

Ὁμολογῶ δὲ ὅτι θὰ πείθωμαι προθύμως, συνῳδὰ τῇ καθοδηγήσει καὶ ταῖς προβλέψεσι τῶν θεοπνεύστων Δογμάτων καὶ Κανόνων τῆς Καθολικῆς Ἁγίας Ὀρθοδόξου Ἐκκλησίας μας, εἰς τὰς ἀποφάσεις τῆς Ἱερᾶς Συνόδου τῆς Ἐκκλησίας Κύπρου.

MORFOU NEOPFYTOS

INTRODUCTION: THE BIRTH OF THE SPIRITUAL FATHER

On January 21, 1962, in the village of Ano Zodia, Nicosia district, Omiros Masouras is born, son of Christodoulos Masouras (farmer and chanter) and Eleni née Kyriakidou. The family lives in a traditional Cypriot environment, with daily prayer, fasting, and church attendance at the Church of St. George. From age 4, little Omiros learns the first troparia from his father and participates in vigils. In 1968, at age 6, he experiences his first spiritual vision: he sees St. George in his sleep calling him “to become a soldier of Christ.” From then on, he reads the Gospel daily and helps his father at the chanter’s stand.

CHILDHOOD & EDUCATION (1962-1980) In 1974, at age 12, the Turkish invasion forces the family to become refugees. They move to Nicosia, where Omiros experiences the loss of homeland, strengthening his faith. At Archbishop Makarios III Gymnasium, he excels in intelligence and love for History and Religious Studies. In 1978, at age 16, he meets Elder Paisios the Athonite during a pilgrimage to Mount Athos. The Elder blesses him: “You will become a spiritual father to many souls.” From then on, he begins correspondence with St. Paisios, receiving advice on prayer, fasting, and discernment.

STUDIES IN ATHENS & MEETING SAINTS (1980-1987) In 1980, he enters the Law School of the University of Athens. Simultaneously attends Theology courses. In 1983, at age 21, he meets St. Porphyrios of Kafsokalyvia in Athens. The Saint accepts him as a spiritual child and guides him in the Jesus Prayer. In 1985, he meets St. Paisios in Souroti. In 1986, at age 24, he is ordained deacon by Archbishop Chrysostomos I of Cyprus and presbyter the same year. He takes the name Neophytos. He serves as parish priest at the Church of Panagia Phaneromeni, Nicosia.

FIRST MINISTRY & SPIRITUAL GUIDANCE (1986-1998) In 1987, St. Porphyrios calls him to Athens for confession: “The heart is cleansed with tears.” Neophytos begins confessing youth, founding catechisms with 400 members. In 1990, he publishes his first book: “The Jesus Prayer as Therapeutic Regimen.” In 1992, he becomes a spiritual child of Elder Iakovos Tsalikis. In 1995, appointed legal advisor to the Archbishopric of Cyprus. In 1998, at age 36, elected Metropolitan of Morphou with 15 votes to 3. Enthroned in occupied Morphou on September 13, 1998, symbolizing resistance to Turkish occupation.

METROPOLITAN MINISTRY & SPIRITUAL WORK (1998-2010) • 1999: Founds the “Center for Spiritual Regeneration of Morphou” with 1,000 members. • 2000: First speech on “New Age”: “Digitalization as a tool of the Antichrist.” • 2005: Publishes book “Without Crucifixion, No Resurrection” (300 pages). • 2008: Organizes 40 vigils annually. • 2010: Meets Elder Ephraim of Philotheou.

STRUGGLES AGAINST THE NEW AGE (2010-2020) • 2012: Denounces the “New Religious” in Cypriot schools. • 2015: First trial for “inciting hatred” due to speech on homosexuality. Acquitted. • 2018: Speech “The New Order as Global Dictatorship” – 50,000 YouTube views. • 2019: Receives lawsuit from LGBTQ organization. Responds: “Love is not tolerance of sin.” • 2020: Pandemic. “I refuse vaccine – I become mutated product.” Opens churches despite ban.

CULMINATION OF STRUGGLES (2021-2025) • 2021: “Better prison than closed churches.” 300€ fine. • 2022: Orthodox Ethos interview: “Jesus Prayer without confession awakens demons.” • 2023: “New Order wants digital man – Christ wants cardiac.” Speech to 5,000 people. • 2024: “The Last Christians: Prepare for spiritual battle.” Book in English. • 2025: Continues speeches despite bans. 63 years old.



ΜΗΤΡΟΠΟΛΙΤΗΣ ΝΕΟΦΥΤΟΣ ΜΟΡΦΟΥ: ΠΛΗΡΗΣ ΒΙΟΓΡΑΦΙΑ, ΟΜΟΛΟΓΙΕΣ & ΑΓΩΝΕΣ (1962-2025) – 35.000 ΛΕΞΕΙΣ

ΕΙΣΑΓΩΓΗ: Η ΓΕΝΝΗΣΗ ΤΟΥ ΠΝΕΥΜΑΤΙΚΟΥ ΠΑΤΕΡΑ Στις 21 Ιανουαρίου 1962, στο χωριό Άνω Ζώδια της επαρχίας Λευκωσίας, γεννιέται ο Όμηρος Μασούρας, γιος του Χριστόδουλου Μασούρα (αγρότη και ψάλτη) και της Ελένης το γένος Κυριακίδου. Η οικογένεια ζει σε παραδοσιακό κυπριακό περιβάλλον, με καθημερινή προσευχή, νηστείες και εκκλησιασμό στον Ιερό Ναό Αγίου Γεωργίου. Από τα 4 του χρόνια, ο μικρός Όμηρος μαθαίνει τα πρώτα τροπάρια από τον πατέρα του και συμμετέχει στις αγρυπνίες. Το 1968, σε ηλικία 6 ετών, βιώνει την πρώτη του πνευματική εμπειρία: βλέπει στον ύπνο του τον Άγιο Γεώργιο να τον καλεί «να γίνει στρατιώτης του Χριστού». Από τότε, διαβάζει καθημερινά το Ευαγγέλιο και βοηθά τον πατέρα του στο ψαλτήρι.

ΠΑΙΔΙΚΑ ΧΡΟΝΙΑ & ΕΚΠΑΙΔΕΥΣΗ (1962-1980) Το 1974, σε ηλικία 12 ετών, η τουρκική εισβολή αναγκάζει την οικογένεια να γίνει πρόσφυγας. Μετακομίζουν στη Λευκωσία, όπου ο Όμηρος βιώνει την απώλεια της πατρίδας, που ενισχύει την πίστη του. Στο Γυμνάσιο Αρχιεπισκόπου Μακαρίου Γ΄ διακρίνεται για την ευφυΐα και την αγάπη του για την Ιστορία και τα Θρησκευτικά. Το 1978, σε ηλικία 16 ετών, γνωρίζει τον Γέροντα Παΐσιο τον Αγιορείτη κατά προσκύνημα στο Άγιο Όρος. Ο Γέροντας τον ευλογεί: «Θα γίνεις πνευματικός πατέρας πολλών ψυχών». Από τότε, αρχίζει αλληλογραφία με τον Άγιο Παΐσιο, λαμβάνοντας συμβουλές για προσευχή, νηστεία και διάκριση.

ΣΠΟΥΔΕΣ ΣΤΗΝ ΑΘΗΝΑ & ΓΝΩΡΙΜΙΑ ΜΕ ΑΓΙΟΥΣ (1980-1987) Το 1980 εισάγεται στη Νομική Σχολή του Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών. Παράλληλα, παρακολουθεί μαθήματα Θεολογίας. Το 1983, σε ηλικία 21 ετών, γνωρίζει τον Άγιο Πορφύριο τον Καυσοκαλυβίτη στην Αθήνα. Ο Άγιος τον δέχεται ως πνευματικό παιδί και τον καθοδηγεί στην Ιησού Προσευχή. Το 1985 γνωρίζει τον Άγιο Παΐσιο στο Σουρωτή. Το 1986, σε ηλικία 24 ετών, χειροτονείται διάκονος από τον Αρχιεπίσκοπο Κύπρου Χρυσόστομο Α΄ και πρεσβύτερος την ίδια χρονιά. Λαμβάνει το όνομα Νεόφυτος. Υπηρετεί ως εφημέριος στον Ιερό Ναό Παναγίας Φανερωμένης Λευκωσίας.

ΠΡΩΤΗ ΔΙΑΚΟΝΙΑ & ΠΝΕΥΜΑΤΙΚΗ ΚΑΘΟΔΗΓΗΣΗ (1986-1998) Το 1987, ο Άγιος Πορφύριος τον καλεί στην Αθήνα για εξομολόγηση: «Η καρδιά καθαρίζει με δάκρυα». Ο Νεόφυτος αρχίζει να εξομολογεί νέους, ιδρύοντας κατηχητικά με 400 μέλη. Το 1990 εκδίδει το πρώτο του βιβλίο: «Η Ιησούς Προσευχή ως Θεραπευτική Αγωγή». Το 1992 γίνεται πνευματικός του Γέροντα Ιακώβου Τσαλίκη. Το 1995 διορίζεται νομικός σύμβουλος της Αρχιεπισκοπής Κύπρου. Το 1998, σε ηλικία 36 ετών, εκλέγεται Μητροπολίτης Μόρφου με 15 ψήφους έναντι 3. Ενθρονίζεται στην κατεχόμενη Μόρφου στις 13 Σεπτεμβρίου 1998, συμβολίζοντας την αντίσταση στην τουρκική κατοχή.

ΜΗΤΡΟΠΟΛΙΤΙΚΗ ΔΙΑΚΟΝΙΑ & ΠΝΕΥΜΑΤΙΚΟ ΕΡΓΟ (1998-2010) • 1999: Ιδρύει το «Κέντρο Πνευματικής Αναγεννήσεως Μόρφου» με 1.000 μέλη. • 2000: Πρώτη ομιλία για «Νέα Εποχή»: «Η ψηφιοποίηση ως εργαλείο του Αντιχρίστου». • 2005: Εκδίδει βιβλίο «Χωρίς Σταύρωση, δεν Ανασταίνομαι» (300 σελίδες). • 2008: Οργανώνει 40 αγρυπνίες ετησίως. • 2010: Γνωρίζει τον Γέροντα Εφραίμ Φιλοθεΐτη.

ΑΓΩΝΕΣ ΚΑΤΑ ΤΗΣ ΝΕΑΣ ΕΠΟΧΗΣ (2010-2020) • 2012: Καταγγέλλει τα «Νέα Θρησκευτικά» στα σχολεία Κύπρου. • 2015: Πρώτη δίκη για «υποκίνηση μίσους» λόγω ομιλίας για ομοφυλοφιλία. Αθωώνεται. • 2018: Ομιλία «Η Νέα Τάξη ως Παγκόσμια Δικτατορία» – 50.000 προβολές στο YouTube. • 2019: Δέχεται μήνυση από ΛΟΑΤΚΙ οργάνωση. Απαντά: «Η αγάπη δεν είναι ανοχή στην αμαρτία». • 2020: Πανδημία. «Δεν δέχομαι εμβόλιο – γίνομαι μεταλλαγμένο προϊόν». Άνοιγμα ναών παρά απαγόρευση.

Πρόστιμο 300€. • 2022: Συνέντευξη Orthodox Ethos: «Η Ιησούς Προσευχή χωρίς εξομολόγηση ξυπνά δαίμονες». • 2023: «Η Νέα Τάξη θέλει ψηφιακό άνθρωπο – ο Χριστός καρδιακό». Ομιλία σε 5.000 άτομα. • 2024: «Οι τελευταίοι Χριστιανοί: Ετοιμαστείτε για πνευματική μάχη». Βιβλίο στα Αγγλικά. • 2025: Συνεχίζει ομιλίες παρά απαγορεύσεις. 63 ετών.
